Atkins Diet

Atkins Diet Information From A Family Physician

Here's some sobering information on the Atkins diet from a doctor. -Ed.

Being a family doctor, I am constantly asked for low carb diet information. It seems like everyone is dieting these days. It used to be mostly teenage girls who'd want to lose weight, but nowadays more people are self conscious about their appearance. The irony is, that we are more obese than we have ever been collectively as a nation. We now look at ourselves with a more critical eye in the mirror.

This is why so many of my patients are seeking Atkins diet information. It appears to me that the Atkins diet food list is a dream come true for many a glutton. Apparently, you get to wolf down as much meat as you desire. You can eat bacon for breakfast, steak for lunch and pork rinds for dinner. You can eat virtually anything you like as long as it doesn't include starch.

Lose Weight Fast With The Atkins Diet

Dr. Atkins has devised a clever plan for losing weight that works for us carnivorous Americans faster than any other method. Of the Atkins diet information that I have seen, the indication is that it works well for rapid weight loss. As long as you stay on the diet, you will lose weight quite quickly.

However, there is a dark side to the Atkins low carb diet plan. The latest Atkins diet information coming out in the form of reports and studies, suggests that the diet itself is horrifically hazardous to your health. You may shortly look thinner, but meanwhile you could potentially damage your liver. As a physician, I consider the risks to outweigh the benefits and I inform my patients about this belief all the time.

A More Traditional Diet Would Be Better

If you want to stay healthy while losing weight fast, try a more traditional method. Exercise relatively vigorously for at least half an hour per day, reduce your portion size and of course, eat plenty of fruits and vegetables. Dieting for weight loss is simple but requires perseverance. All that's required is, sticking to a healthy meal routine and getting enough exercise. Unfortunately, people just don't want to do it this way. They would rather stuff themselves with meat.

Many times, my patients are so desperate to lose weight rapidly, that they don't heed my advice and insist on doing the Atkins program anyway. With these patients, I asked them to at least consider the latest Atkins diet information that is available. I fear that one day, one of my patients will drop dead from this dangerous—and what I consider to be—fad diet. As a doctor, I want save lives, not shorten them.
