Atkins Bars – Flavors And Uses

April 17th, 2008 · 2 Comments

If you are attempting to stick with the Atkins diet, you’ve probably run across their snack foods, in particular, the Atkins bars. These bars are, of course, high in protein and low in carbohydrates. They are compliant with what the Atkins diet recommends.

Atkins bars are somewhat similar to their energy bar predecessors such as Power Bars, and are a convenient way for those who are following the diet guidelines to enjoy a snack or meal substitute.

Atkins bars are available in two varieties: Advantage bars and Morning Start bars. Realistically, I don’t think there is much difference in their nutrient content, but they do offer different flavors.

Atkins Bars Flavors

Advantage Atkins bars are available in flavors such as:

  • chocolate mocha
  • peanut butter granola
  • caramel fudge brownie
  • and coconut brownie

Morning Start Atkins bars come in more breakfast friendly flavors like:

  • mixed berry
  • cranberry almond
  • and oatmeal raisin

I personally have a slight sweet tooth, so the Advantage bars would suit me just fine, any time. I can, however, see where some consumers might like the option of having a breakfast flavored item. The problem is, it doesn’t much matter because they all taste like a combination of cardboard and Play-Doh.

Atkins Bars Uses

Like any other high protein bar, these bars can be eaten either as a meal substitute or as a high calorie snack. Take care if you are using these as snacks, because they are relatively high in calories, they may impede your diet if you are trying to cut down on calories as well as increase your protein intake. The Atkins bars have the calories of an average meal, so if you are only using them as a meal replacement you should be in fairly good shape.

You can buy just one or two Atkins bars at almost any supermarket, drug store or health food store to try out. If you decide that you like the way they taste, you can find quite a few online stores that offer Atkins bars at a quantity discount. Although, you’ll only save a few bucks and have to buy at least a dozen, so make sure you like them before you commit to a purchase just to save a few dollars.

None of these “diet” bars will ever taste like a candy bar, but they do serve a purpose. If you are really committed to following the Atkins plan, these bars can be an asset to your busy lifestyle.
