Atkins Low Carb Recipes Are Boring

May 19th, 2008 · 4 Comments

Anyone who’s been on the Atkins low carb diet knows how monotonous it gets. Of course it sounds terribly tantalizing… at first. You get to gorge on all the meat and cheese that you want. For me, it sounded like the perfect diet. I got to eat ham for breakfast every morning, and steak as often as I liked. Regardless, it was just a matter of time before Atkins ‘friendly’ food got boring. This is the tragedy of the diet plan. It is a truly dark day when steak becomes boring, but honestly, after the first two weeks it was difficult for me to even look at, let alone take a bite of, that red juicy meat. I was just so sick of it. That is when I decided to be more creative when preparing Atkins low carb recipes.

For the first two weeks of being on the Atkins diet, I didn’t consider any creativity with my Atkins low carb recipe regimen. I was, after all, quite happy with my continuous diet of meat and cheese. Who wouldn’t be? …for awhile.

But then, I got sick of my all meat diet and I became a little frightened of Atkins low carb recipes. Now, the only thing that I really wanted — craved — was starch. So I started tinkering with my diet meal plans. Unfortunately, once I started inventing my own low carb recipes, I wanted more. It was almost as if the Atkins recipes touched off my hunger for other, more varied foods. The more I learned how to cook more desirable foods that were still Atkins diet compliant, the more I wanted the forbidden fruits, so to speak.

Instead of the curbing my hunger for carbs, the Atkins low carb recipes merely strengthened it. I now knew that my days on the Atkins program were numbered. Eventually, I would give in to the temptation to eat glorious carbohydrates. Rather than impatiently waiting for the inevitable, I made the decision to discontinue the Atkins Weight loss program. No more Atkins advantage bars. No more steaks for dinner — not regularly, anyway. From this point forward, I would lose my weight by eating a healthy diet and exercising.

I’ve found that the South Beach diet tends to be more forgiving and easier to work with. Atkins can be unhealthy and lacking fiber. Clean eating in general, along with exercise, usually does the trick.

I have tried a lot of different diets, some of them were really very boring, but now I don’t go into diet, I just eat healthy food and do physical exercises every day.

Peanut butter is another staple that should be in every sugar-free pantry. It will add flavor to muffins, cookies or cakes, as well as substituting for part of the fat. Thinned with a few tablespoons of milk and stirred over low heat, it makes a quick dessert topping or sauce, and pairs very well with chocolate or bananas. Be sure to read the label carefully, since a lot of peanut butters have a surprising amount of sugar in them.
