Do you still make New Year's resolutions? If so, do you stick to them? It seems to me, as people get older they lose their resoluteness. Maybe they're tired of the interminable series of failures, so they resolve to make no resolutions at all. I, however, am on my second year of steadfast determination; I want to lose weight.
I've been working on this for over a year now. I am definitely a long way from my ideal body weight — according to the BMI index — but have made some progress. And, as time goes by, I am learning how to lose weight. Yes, it obviously involves diet and exercise. However, more exercise means more hunger, which means more weight — it is a delicate balance.
Just because I want to lose weight now, does not mean I've always felt this way. For many years, I wallowed in self-denial about how far over weight I really was. I convinced myself that I had big bones and over-developed muscles, which is, in part, true (see mesomorph). Even with this consideration, I was still seventy pounds (32 kilos) too heavy.
I am now, however, on the right track. I want to lose weight, and lose weight fast. The recommendation for healthy weight loss is 1-2 lbs per month; I've achieved 1.5 lbs/month for the last 10 months — 15 lbs. I realize that I will never be slim, but I'd like to be more attractive, and have more endurance. I would like to be noticed, not for the rolls of fat protruding from my body, but for the taught muscle tone showing through my shirt.
