These are tough times. You hear that a lot lately. In reality, I suppose, times are tough for some folks and not so tough for others. All in all, we actually live in a pretty great era. Those who are perpetually struggling to lose weight through diet, however, may not be looking through rose colored glasses. By either cause or effect (or both), most of these individuals are desperately dispirited. Perhaps they have a problem practicing a proper diet or, they just like food a bit too much.

The fact of the matter is: a successful weight loss diet consists of procedure and perseverance. You must follow an appropriate eating plan — including portion size — and adhere to a strict exercise program. This is the best plan of action for lasting results. Get with the program, people.

What do you think of when you hear the term 'lose weight diet'? I think: well-balanced, low calorie meals with lots of vitamins and minerals, plus — a consistent exercise regime. Also, it's important to drink plenty of water. This is the absolute minimum, folks. These are the mandatory components for an effective weight loss plan. To succeed, you must modify your eating habits and stay active.

Some people think that if they exercise 20 minutes a day, they can continue eating as they always have and still lose weight. Unfortunately, this will probably not work for overweight individuals. Besides the recommendation that to achieve sustained weight loss you need to get 60-90 minutes of exercise daily, you should also rectify bad eating habits. Exercise alone, will not be enough; to lose weight, you must diet. This has been my experience, anyway.

If you're like most people, you probably want to lose a precise number of pounds. I'm sure you've seen: 'lose 10 pounds in 10 days' and so on, and so forth… Maybe that 10 pounds is what's separating you from your ideal weight. Whatever your goal, to really lose weight, diet and exercise is the only way to get there.

Weight loss is definitely a chore. Most of us do not cherish the thought of wrestling with our weight. It's a pain in the ass, so to speak, that comes with getting older. So, if you're serious about shedding those pounds and retaining the results — to lose weight:

  • diet
    • fish
    • poultry
    • vegetables
    • fruits
    • whole grain
    • and water
  • exercise
    • 60-90 minutes daily

And, stick to your plan. With perseverance you will eventually reach your perfect weight.
