Low Carb Cooking Tips

Low carb cooking may be challenging at first, but once you understand the concepts you'll be on your way to a carbohydrate-limited diet. There are a number of things to take into consideration and a few tips and tricks to bring with you into the kitchen. After implementing these techniques to low carb cooking it will become easier as you progress.

Consider the state of your general health first. You may be tempted to use low carb cooking methods that use high-fat ingredients. This may not be wise for those intolerant to fatty foods. You may also be tempted to eliminate carbohydrates entirely but this is not only a bad idea, it's practically impossible.

Choose Wisely

It is never wise to completely remove a food group that is so important to the food RDA pyramid. The thing to remember when incorporating low carb cooking into your diet plan is that there are good carbs your body needs in order to maintain sufficient energy and to get enough fiber.

With that said, if you're on a quest to lose weight fast, then you can adopt methods of low carb cooking that keep carbohydrate counts at a bare minimum. This includes eliminating vegetables such as carrots, peas and corn. These vegetables are chock full of carbohydrates in the form of natural sugar.

Here are just a few of many great recipes:

  • Chicken parmesan. Just skip the breading and serve it without pasta.
  • Stir fries. Use a variety of vegetables, and chicken, beef or shrimp. This is a tasty meal that can really satisfy.
  • Lasagna. a dish like this can be included with low carb menus. Simply substitute thin layers of zucchini for the pasta. It's surprisingly good.

If you have utilized low carb cooking that cuts out a lot of carbohydrates for a few days to a couple of weeks, you probably want to begin adding good carbs back into your diet. This could be somewhat difficult if you are use to preparing your meals without having used the ingredients that you'll be adding.

Bring It Back

You could start by adding small amounts of pasta to your chicken parmesan and lasagna. Consider whole grain pasta as an alternative to the regular kind. Also remember to watch your portions when using low carb cooking recipes. It's easy to over-do-it with the good carbs if you haven't had this type of food in your diet for a while.

You do have plenty of great options when low carb cooking at home. And once you start to add some good carbs into your meals, your options will increase immensely.
