Low Carb Soup

Low Carb Soup Saves the Day…Or the Diet, Anyway

For some, a low carb diet appears, at first, to be a dream come true. Diets such as the Atkins plan, promise meaty meals containing your favorite foods; steak, bacon, ham and cheese—and all other foods packed the protein…and fat. However, I'll tell you in a moment, why you might want to consider low carb soup.

But first, a question: what could possibly ruin your meat weighted vision of dieting? Answer: consider eating, even prime rib, every day; it won't be long before you become repulsed by it. Ditto for cheese, ham, bacon and all the other fatty friends of the Atkins—or another low carb—diet. The solution: use some creative thinking when preparing low carbohydrate meals.

Low Carb Soup Reasoning

On a low carbohydrate weight loss plan, protein is the key, as it facilitates weight reduction (just be sure to get enough potassium if you're following the Atkins diet). So, what's a more appealing source of protein than a huge plate of grease laden, fatty meat? Reality check: once the freshness of your plan goes stale, it'll all start tasting, well, distasteful. If not for low carb soup, you might not make it (reach your goal).

Educating yourself about low carb soup will introduce a fresh new flavor to your fare. If you've always appreciated a savory soup, but haven't cooked it much; you might assume that it's difficult to prepare. That's not necessarily the case. And, learning to fix low carb soup will increase your meal choices.

Low Carb Soup Examples

There are several conventional soups that can easily be adapted to low carb living. Some examples are:

  • New England clam chowder
  • chicken soup
  • and miso soup

Because cream is not high in carbohydrates, all that's required to make low carb clam chowder is to hold the potatoes. That wasn't difficult, was it? Chicken soup? Negative on the noodles, etc…

Now, if you want to create a truly succulent low carb soup, you'll want to do things the old-fashioned way. It's not hard to imagine how much better a soup will taste when prepared by boiling down a soup bone than one braced with bullion cubes. Once you slurp a low carb soup carefully crafted from scratch, you'll toss your boring bullion batch. Scratch made soups may take longer, but they store in your fridge longer, so it is worth the extra effort. Enjoy.
